Mrs. Sarah Brackmann has been teaching preschool at Winfield School District 34 since 2001. She has a degree in Early Childhood Education from Purdue University, as well as a Special Education endorsement. She is currently teaching a morning preschool session and enjoying afternoons spent with her young children. Mrs. Brackmann's classroom website can be found here.

Ms. Tricia Sabathne
joined the Winfield School District 34 staff in January 2007. She completed her Master’s in Speech-Language Pathology at Northern Illinois University in 1998. She came to Winfield after working as a Speech-Language Pathologist for eight and a half years, primarily in preschool classrooms. Ms. Sabathne earned a subsequent Master’s in Early Childhood Education in 2004, and has completed coursework for teaching English Language Learners. She enjoys traveling, and one of her professional and personal highlights was traveling to Kenya in 2005 to assist with projects promoting early childhood education in three different communities.  Currently she enjoys spending time with her family at home, the park, the libary, and visiting friends. Mrs. LouAnne Ooton, Speech Pathology


Speech and Language support is a part of the Early Childhood education provided at Winfield School District 34. Our speech/language pathologist supports students with identified speech and language needs who have an Individualized Education Program (I.E.P.), as well as the at-risk and typically developing students through consultation, play activities, language groups, song and movement. Our speech/language pathologist is also a member of our screening and play-based assessment team.

Mrs. Shona Dave, Social Work

The social worker supports the social and emotional growth of students through weekly group lessons and regular consultation with the preschool teachers. Additionally, the social worker serves as the parent coordinator for the pre-school program and assists parents and caregivers in addressing concerns related to a child’s social/emotional growth and development, and acts as a liaison between home and school. Our social worker also participates as a member of the screening and play-based assessment team.

Mrs. Tammy Marson, Occupational Therapy

At Winfield School District 34 our occupational therapist collaborates with the preschool team for problem-solving and providing quality programming including promoting developmentally appropriate play, social, and self-care skills, and providing opportunities for fine motor development. Our occupational therapist is part of the play-based assessment team and provides services to children with special education eligibility.

Mrs. Ruth Roberts, Physical Therapy

Physical therapy services are available to those students who exhibit mobility deficits that impede their ability to safely and independently access their educational environment. Our physical therapist works with students, teachers, and staff to promote and/or make accommodations for students’ optimal physical performance and participation within the educational environment. This may include playground and physical education settings, proper seating and positioning within the classroom, and general mobility throughout the school day. Our physical therapist is part of the play-based assessment team and provides services to children with special education eligibility.

Mrs. Sue Hempe
English Language Learner (ELL) Teacher

The ELL teacher collaborates with general education teachers in supporting students who are identified as limited or non-English speakers. The goal of language development is to teach the students to communicate (listening, speaking, reading, and writing) in English.  Our ELL teacher, as needed, is also a member of our screening and play-based assessment team.
